Free Indirect Discourse in Non-fiction

چکیده
This paper considers some uses of Free Indirect Discourse within non-fictional discourse. It is shown that these differ from ordinary in they do not attribute actual thoughts or utterances. I argue the explanation for this are assertoric. Instead, it argued here fictional uses, is, used with force like utterances to tell a story. Rather than making assertions about world, occurrences introduce localized scenarios which audiences meant learn factual information.
